"An entry door can serve more than functional purposes.
It can be a touchstone in our daily lives, welcoming our arrivals,
expressing our personal creativity, reminding us to pause and appreciate,
giving lasting beauty and heritage value to our home,
while being a functioning work of art".

Art Doors arose from our desire to meet the needs of customers who want a front door that is unique and often different, one that is a statement of their personal style and originality. The business was established in 1995 to custom make doors of high quality and performance. Since then we have taken pride in providing bespoke doors for residential and commercial buildings both in New Zealand and overseas.

We only make to order, most frequently collaborating in the design process with our customer. A timber frame to match the chosen door design, is recommended. We can advise on climate and site specific suitable timbers, and quote for this too.

We are based in the hills above Cambridge, in Waikato, New Zealand. In this land of beautiful native trees and timbers; salvaged timbers have provided us with unique raw materials to specialize in sculpted solid wood doors and frames.

To minimise the waste of valuable off-cuts we have developed other complementary items of practical beauty. Tactile hand made door handles, are individually designed to suit the door, and are a pleasure to use.

A range of utensils and platters; very fine to look at and to use. Because they are all hand made we call them 'Kitchen Artefacts' click here to view site. At least 30 basic utensil styles have evolved (at last count), though each item is uniquely created using a combination of different native timbers.

Three dimensional in form and very tactile, they quickly become part of a cook's 'everyday use' kitchen implements. They also make excellent small, practical, unique gifts, often with a wonderful provenance story / geography/ history lesson about the timbers used.
